AscendHR, a PEO based in Beckley, WV, is seeking an experienced Payroll Tax Accountant to join our team.
The Payroll Tax Accountant is responsible for managing multi-state payroll tax compliance, filings, reconciliations, and tax issue resolution for our client base across multiple jurisdictions. The ideal candidate has strong payroll tax knowledge, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and can work collaboratively with payroll operations, finance, client service, and external agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
The Payroll Tax Accountant is responsible for managing multi-state payroll tax compliance, filings, reconciliations, and tax issue resolution for our client base across multiple jurisdictions. The ideal candidate has strong payroll tax knowledge, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and can work collaboratively with payroll operations, finance, client service, and external agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Acts with the highest level of honesty, trust, character and transparency while providing excellent service to clients, employees, and field partners.
- Improves client retention by building and maintaining a client relationship based on trust and dependability, quality service, and exceeding client expectations.
- Process, review, and reconcile federal, state, and local payroll tax filings for PEO clients.
- Ensure timely and accurate payment of payroll taxes and filing of quarterly and annual returns.
- Register withholding, state unemployment, and local municipality accounts as needed.
- File monthly, quarterly, and annual payroll tax returns and complete reconciliations.
- Prepare, file, and pay quarterly Business & Occupational Tax returns.
- Prepare, file, and pay monthly WV Sales tax returns.
- Prepare and file annual 1096 and 1099 returns.
- Respond to payroll tax notices in a timely manner.
- Manage payroll tax accounts for multiple EINs and jurisdictions.
- Research and resolve tax notices, discrepancies, agency inquiries, and payroll tax issues.
- Monitor payroll tax compliance requirements and stay current on changing regulations.
- Reconcile payroll tax liabilities, tax deposits, and general ledger accounts.
- Assist with onboarding new clients, including tax account setup and jurisdiction registration.
- Maintain accurate tax records, documentation, and audit support files.
- Partner with internal payroll teams to identify and correct tax setup or processing issues.
- Assist with system testing, tax updates, and process improvement initiatives.
- Support audits and provide requested payroll tax documentation.
- Support year-end processing including W-2s, amendments, and annual reconciliations.
