Summary:
The Carpenter Helper assists the General Manager and building team, including lead carpenters, masons, and other specialized contractors, with constructing and remodeling custom-built homes. This position supports daily construction activities by preparing and cleaning job sites, loading and delivering materials, assisting skilled tradespeople, and using tools and equipment as directed. The Carpenter Helper follows instructions, learns through on-the-job training, and contributes to safe, accurate, and timely project completion.
Basic Duties:
- Assist carpenters, masons, equipment operators, and other skilled tradespeople with assigned construction and remodeling tasks.
- Prepare job sites by removing obstacles, debris, and hazards and organizing materials and work areas.
- Load, unload, move, and stage construction materials, supplies, tools, and equipment.
- Pick up and deliver supplies from vendors and haul debris to designated disposal locations using authorized vehicles and equipment.
- Use and care for tools and equipment, including levels, power drills, grinders, saws, pressure washers, and lifts, as trained and authorized.
- Assist with setting up and taking down ladders, scaffolding, and other temporary structures under appropriate direction and in accordance with safety procedures.
- Remove, fill, and compact earth as directed to support site preparation and construction activities.
- Perform ongoing and end-of-task site cleanup, including collecting scrap materials, disposing of waste, and maintaining clear access routes.
- Follow company procedures and applicable governmental safety requirements, use required personal protective equipment, and promptly report unsafe conditions or damaged equipment.
- Communicate and coordinate with coworkers and subcontractors to complete assigned tasks accurately and on time.
- Participate in on-the-job training and perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- One to two years of carpentry experience.
- Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, and their safe use.
- Willingness to learn new skills and participate in on-the-job training.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and work under the direction of supervisors and skilled tradespeople.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to assigned job sites.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with coworkers and subcontractors.
- Dependability, attention to detail, and a commitment to job-site safety.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
The position involves physical work at active residential construction and remodeling sites, both indoors and outdoors. Essential duties require the ability to perform the following activities, with or without reasonable accommodation:
- Stand and walk for extended periods; bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and perform repetitive movements during 8- or 10-hour shifts.
- Climb ladders and navigate uneven ground and changing job-site conditions.
- Lift and carry construction materials weighing 80 pounds, using appropriate assistance or equipment when needed for safe handling.
- Use the manual dexterity and coordination needed to handle materials and operate tools and equipment safely.
- Work in varying weather conditions and temperatures, subject to safe working conditions and job-site procedures.
- Work around dust, noise, moving equipment, and other typical construction-site hazards while following required protective measures.
